Hue – Vinh Moc Tunnels Loop
Distance: 220 kms
(A) A very big lagoon, though easy to miss if not taken right to it. Some good restaurants on the pier also.
(B) A 300 year old ancient village. Take a walk through the village to explore the vintage houses intact, gardens, pottery kiln etc. The Village people are very friendly and some traditional food may be available.
(C) is the highlight of this day. If you skip the rest this is certainly worth your time. Over 2 km of tunnels with 7 exit points to the beach.

Unlike the much better known and marketed Cu Chi Tunnels these are 175cm high and wide enough to be comfortably explored by foreigners.

They were not built to fight either but to hide. The villagers, thought to be helping supply the Northern army were under attack from the South and built these for refuge.

Three levels down to 30 metres were dug as the underground safe haven for sixty families between 1966 and 1972 and so successful no reported lives were lost and 17 children were born in them during that time.

An amazing experience the first time from the darkness to find an exit to a beautiful day and beach.

Put some time aside to visit the museum also. I’m not mad about museums generally but over several visits also go away better educated from time spent here.

(D) A beach stop with some ruins thrown in. I don’t know the history of these as yet but worth dropping in.

(E) It would be impossible to go hungry on this ride there are seafood restaurants a plenty. This is one I find good with decent seating too.

(F) This historical site marks the victory of the people of Cua Viet in 1973.

(G) This is a village with a difference. Ornate burial sites dating back to the Nguyen Dynasty. Really worth checking this one out.

(H) One of the recommended accommodation options though in Hue spoilt for choice so a hotel search may find a bargain.
